Grey, blonde and red hair do not respond to laser. Electrolysis does, because it does not rely on pigment at all. We are 30 minutes from Great Chishill. More on our clinic near Royston.
Because each hair is treated on its own, the method works on fine and pale hair that light-based treatments simply cannot see.

How electrolysis works
A sterile probe is slid into the natural opening of the follicle, alongside the hair rather than through the skin. A small controlled current is delivered to the base, where the cells that grow the hair sit. Those cells are disabled and the hair is lifted out.
Hair grows in cycles and only follicles in the active phase can be treated. That is why the work runs as a course over months rather than a single long appointment.
Who it is for
Hair growth is driven by hormones, genetics, medication and life stage. It affects people of every gender and every skin tone.
Hormonal and PCOS-related growth
Persistent facial or body hair tied to PCOS or perimenopause is common, and it responds well. You will be given realistic timescales rather than a promise.
Hair that laser cannot treat
Grey, white, blonde and red hair carry too little pigment for laser to target. Electrolysis does not care about colour.
Trans and non-binary clients
Facial clearance and pre-surgical work, in a private room, without commentary.
What it costs
| Session | Price |
|---|---|
| Consultation and patch test | Confirmed when you book |
| 15 minutes | Confirmed at consultation |
| 30 minutes | Confirmed at consultation |
| 45 minutes | Confirmed at consultation |
Your first appointment
The first appointment is a consultation and a patch test rather than a full session. We look at the area, talk through what is realistic, treat a small test patch and see how your skin settles over the following days. You leave with a plan: session length, spacing, and a rough idea of how long the course will run.
Questions
Is it a straightforward drive from Great Chishill?
It is around 14 miles. West to Royston, then the A1198 north, then follow signs for Cambourne, then Upper Cambourne. Most people are here in about 30 minutes.
When is the best time to book from Great Chishill?
You are heading away from both Cambridge and the A505, so you miss the worst of it. Late morning and early afternoon are easiest.
Does it hurt?
You feel a brief warmth on each hair. Most people find it very manageable. The patch test tells you exactly what to expect before you commit to anything.
How many sessions will it take?
That depends on the area, how dense the growth is and what is driving it. You will get an honest estimate at consultation rather than a number picked to sound appealing.
Is it really permanent?
A follicle that has been fully treated cannot produce another hair. Untreated follicles nearby still can, which is why finishing the course matters.
Does it work on darker skin?
Yes. The method does not rely on a contrast between hair and skin, so every skin tone can be treated safely.
